Dialogue with insect
Dialogue with another existence

Can we remember again the language we communicated 700 million years ago?
7억년 전 우리는 같은 뿌리에서 진화해왔다.
7억년전 우리가 소통하던 언어를 다시 기억할 수 있지않을까 ?

700 million years ago, humans and other beings evolved from one root.
We used to communicate in the past, but we were divided into our own languages and behaviors.
I started this project because I wondered if I could remember the language that humans and other beings communicated in the past.
I might have talked to a little ant that was passing by my foot in the past.

And I may have walked on the surface of the little ant's mind with a whispery, delicate and gaze.
Based on this imagination, I started talking to insects. Before starting this project,
This project wanted to talk about the boundaries between oneself and others’ existence through the process of trying and understanding conversations with other beings.
I hope this project will be a time to expand ownself through the process of talking to insects and making friends.
What is a dialogue?
The act of excreting and absorbing each other’s thoughts,
looking at each other through the process.
Walking together on the path of each other's thoughts.
"conversation" in a way called "absorption and excretion
of thoughts”, and then, I did this project especially
based on the psychological term “mirror effect”.
Mirroring effect:
"Mirroring" is a psychological term
that refers to "unconscious imitation behavior”,
and refers to copying other people's actions
as if they were reflected in the
same way. The "mirroring effect" derived from this is an
act of unconsciously imitating the speech, expression,
and behavior of the person you like, and is also called
the "coordination effect."
This project wanted to talk about the boundaries between
oneself and others’ existence through the process of
trying and understanding conversations with other beings.
I hope this project will be a time to expand ownself
through the process of talking to insects and making friends
Dialogue with insect project 1. : Conversation as a gaze
While I walked slowly to wake up, I met
each of them suddenly.
They stared at me quietly,
I stared at them calmly, too.
As if we had known each other long ago,
we looked at each other for a long time.
As if I met someone I missed
After that i started to draw the
insect’s portrait

The above story is a project that I started experimenting with in the Benetton Research Residency.
I conducted research and conducted projects focusing on the insects found at and near the Benetton Research Center.

Dialogue with insect project 5 . :
How to wear a love letter for insect on the body
Wearing on the body a huge letter to deliver to insect. Making friends with them. Being their home.
To listen to their stories so closely.

Dialogue with insect project 6 . : Making QR codes with snail
The boundary between oneself and another being, analog and digital, past and the future. The question of what is the right direc- tion for us to take between those bound- aries by expanding myself.
Trying to talk to other existence and becoming friends. I started making a QR code with the snail to putting inside the journey of a conversation with insect.
Note: The snail is an animal, but it has a meaning that I have tried to talk to a small other being different from me. So I decided to proceed with this project together.
After finishing this 2023 version of Dialogue with insect
( 2023.03.15 - 2023.07.21 ). in the Benetton Research Residency.
I redefines the word "Dialogue" as "absorption and excretion of thoughts”, based on the psychological term “mirror effect”.
Through my different dialogues, I wanted to talk about the boundaries between oneself and others’ existence through an attempt to coverse with other beings.
And I hopes it will invite spectators to expand themselves and their ideas surrounding language by talking to insects and becoming friends.
